Club Property Policy

Building & Property Permitted and Prohibited Usage

  1. Private Club. Pittsburgh Chess Club is a private club and only members are permitted to use our facilities. Tournament players, Club Class students, and Open House guests are permitted during their respective events.
  2. Exterior Doors. Exterior doors must remain closed. Propping open doors is prohibited.
  3. Keycard Sharing. Access keycard sharing is strictly prohibited. There is an exception for Parents and/or guardians of Junior members (under age 18), who ar permitted to accompany their child to the club and to be on its premises.
  4. Parental Supervision. Children under the age of twelve years should not be left unattended.
  5. Property Damage. Intentional damage, misuse, or theft of Pittsburgh Chess Club property, furniture, materials, and equipment is prohibited and may be punishable by law.
  6. Equipment. Chess equipment should be treated with respect and not used for any purpose other than playing chess.
  7. Refrigerator. The refridgerator is intended for snackbar items purchasable by club members. Storing outside food and drink is prohibited.
  8. Library. Food and drinks in the library are prohibited.
  9. Trash. Members and guests are responsible for their own trash, which must be deposited in trash receptacles in the common area.
  10. Monitoring. The club is monitored 24/7 by security cameras for safety and liability. It is prohibited to move and/or unplug any security cameras.
  11. Thermostats. It is prohibited to adjust thermostats and air conditioning units without permission from club staff.
  12. Animals. The presence of animals, other than certified service animals, is prohibited.
  13. Alcohol. Alcohol and illicit drugs are prohibited. Persons under the influence of alcohol or illicit drugs are not permitted in the building.
  14. Smoking. Smoking is not permitted inside the building.
  15. Photography. Photographing, filming, or audio/video recording on Club property by members or guests is prohibited without prior written approval from the CEO.
  16. Hygeine. Members and guests are expected to conform to normal grooming standards.
  17. Soliciting. Soliciting is not permitted in the building.

Noise Tolerance

  1. Quiet Zones. The Library and Game Rooms are considered quiet zones unless an exception is made by the Club Steward, Club Class Instructor, Tournament Director, or other staff. No noise, phone conversations, or virtual meetings are permitted in quiet zones. Face-to-face conversations should be conducted using quiet tones.
  2. Headphones must be used to watch video or to listen to audio in quiet zones and at noise levels that are not audible by other persons in the vicinity.

Personal Property

  1. Personal items should remain with the owner and not left unattended. Personal items are not the responsibility of the Club staff.
  2. Personal items such as backpacks, shopping bags, and electronic device cables may not be placed in a way that obstructs aisles, stairs, or exits.
  3. Objects larger than a carry-on bag (approximately 14”H x 8”W x 24”L), such as luggage, large backpacks, or oversized duffel bags may not be brought into the building without prior permission from building management.
  4. Lost and found items left in the club for longer than 30-days will be disposed.
